Fiat 500C to get Abarth treatment
In a bid to better take on the MINI Cooper, Fiat is reportedly readying at least two Abarth versions of its 500C convertible. Fiat is said to be putting the finishing touches on the hotter drop tops, with a launch date likely in time for next spring’s driving season.
Thanks to Fiat 500C’s canvas roof setup, the Abarth versions were a rather simple conversion: The 500C retains the coupe’s roof rails and pillars, making it rigid and light enough for a performance setup.
The base model 500C Abarth will come sporting a 133 horsepower 1.4L powerplant. A step-up Abarth Esseesse model will also be available, producing 157 horsepower. Like all 500 models, the 500C Abarth models will be available with a wealth of customization options.
Although the standard 500 is priced below the MINI, the 500C Abarth models will likely be on par with their British counterparts. According to Autocar, the base 500C Abarth model will list from the equivalent of $26,000 in the UK.
No word if the 500C Abarth models will make it to the U.S., but there is a strong possibility.
